Each CCG in the country were required to develop a local transformation plan for children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health. One of the local priorities for Hull was to develop a website to help children, young people and their families to understand emotional and mental health issues, to promote self-help tips and techniques, and to help to make the ‘system’ easier to navigate within local services.
The website branding and content was co-produced with young people through workshopping and work-based placements with eskimosoup to ensure that the feel, resources and services were appropriate for the target audience.
The name, “how are you feeling?” and emoji-style branding is far from the look and feel of a traditional NHS website and was developed within a youth club setting along with young people with direct experience of mental health services.
www.howareyoufeeling.org.uk was launched by NHS Hull CCG and a group of young people as brand champions.
eskimosoup curated and created large amounts of the website content using true co-production methodology. It is this approach that means that the features such as the interactive How are you feeling? quiz has been so well-received by young people in the area served.
